Mr. Parrish, 74, was granted his angel wings at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends in his home in Hurst.
Mr. Parrish was born Dec. 5, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, to J.D. and Lorraine Parrish who preceded him in death. He was the oldest of three sons.
He was a longtime resident of Texas. He spent his early years in Daingerfield, where he enjoyed playing sports, outdoor activities, and socializing with his lifelong childhood friends. Jim graduated from the University of Texas and worked as a certified public accountant for many years in locations to include the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex; Waco; Columbus, Miss.; and Tuscaloosa, Ala.
He loved watching television, spending time with his dogs, and reminiscing about the “good old days” in East Texas. Prior to his illness, he enjoyed bowling, playing golf and participating in woodworking projects in his garage.
He will best be remembered by his family and friends for his love of telling stories. To quote American author Barry Lopez, “If stories come to you, care for them. And learn to give them away where they are needed. Sometimes a person needs a story more than food to feel satisfied.”
