Williams

DAINGERFIELD -- Memorial services for Coach Steve Williams, 64 of Daingerfield were held July 14, at Nail-Haggard Funeral Home Chapel.

Coach Williams was born on April 17, 1954 in Shreveport, La. to Gordon Woodrow Williams and Joya Capitola Lindsey Williams. He died on Monday, July 9.

TYLER – A celebration of the life of Deborah Denice James, 49 of Tyler, will be held July 14 at 2 p.m. at Texas Discovery Gardens (located within Fair Park) in the Canopy Room. Texas Discovery Garden is located at 3601 Martin Luther King Boulevard in Dallas. Ms. James was born Dec. 11, 1968 in San Antonio and passed away June 13 in Dallas. Ms. James was preceded in death by her father, Robert James; and her grandparents Delbert and Thelma Robertson and Dr. John A. and Pluma James. She is survived by her mother, Carolyn James.

ORE CITY --Services for Mrs. Belva Doss, 82, of Ore City were held June 28 at First Baptist Church Ore City. Burial followed at Ore City Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Ore City. Mrs. Doss was born May 18, 1936 and passed away June 25.

Daingerfield - Graveside services for Dorothy H. Glass, 92, of Daingerfield were held at Tuesday, June 26 at the Hughes Springs Cemetery with the Bro. Dan Gilliam officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Dorothy was born Jan. 29, 1926 in Hughes Springs to William Paul and Lorene Hall. She died Friday, June 22 in Greenville. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Daingerfield where she was an active member until moving to Greenville. She was a member of the 20th Century Club and P.E.O. She was active with the Campfire Girls and past President of the PTA. Dorothy graduated from East Texas State University. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob C. Glass; and son, Steve Glass.

BEARD

David Beard was a self made man, who was proud of family, friends and employees who helped him achieve his success. He was the President and Leader of Great American Foods that always stayed true to the lessons he learned as a child about pride and hard work, which helped him become the successful entrepreneur many came to respect and love. David led the company and his employees through over 40 years of a successful business and provided careers for many employees an opportunity of a first job for so many more. He opened his first restaurant, David Beard’s Catfish Village, in 1969 on Highway 155 near Ore City, and the rest was history. He oversaw multiple restaurant concepts, food manufacturing, warehouse and logistical endeavors over the years. David learned his skills, not from school, but from hard work, determination and putting quality above all else. He was a builder and cattleman for many years and owned thoroughbred racehorses.

PENNEY

Forrest Edward Penney, Jr., 71, of Gonzales passed away Wednesday, June 13. Forrest was born March 23, 1947 in DeQueen, Ark. to Forrest Edward Penney, Sr. and Margaret Ann Wallace Penney. Forrest married Sue Ann Payton on April 6, 1968 in Ft. Worth. Forrest was a member of the First Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee and District Trustee. He served as President and Secretary of Gonzales Independence Homes since 1994, had been a member of the Gonzales Rotary Club serving as its President in 1997. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow. Finally, Forrest served on the Gonzales Library Board since 1995. Forrest was born in DeQueen and moved with his family to Daingerfield when he started school. Forrest graduated from Daingerfield High School with the Class of 1965 where he started for the varsity football team. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school Forrest entered the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in May of 1969.

HALEY

Daingerfield-Services for Miloa Haley, 96, of Daingerfield will be held Sunday, June 17 at Jenkins United Methodist Church with Bro. Jerry Irvin officiating. Burial will be in the Daingerfield Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. Miloa was born on Sept. 1, 1921 in Hot Springs, Ark. to Robert Webster Haley, Sr. and Clara Adams Haley. She died on Friday, June 15, 2018. She was a member of Jenkins United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School from 1987 to 1998. She graduated from Daingerfield High School and received a BA degree from East Texas State. Miloa also attended Southwest Texas State, Kilgore College and Texarkana Community College. She taught school in San Marcos Baptist Academy, Union Grove High School and Marshall High School. Miloa worked in the Morris County Tax Assessor Collectors office as a deputy, City secretary for a short while and retired from Lone Star Steel on April 30, 1982 after 26 ½ years.

Daingerfield-Private services for Billie Sue Alexander, 79, of Lone Star were held Saturday, June 16, at Spring Hill Cemetery. Sue was born on Dec. 17, 1938 in Rocky Branch to William H. and Iva Brunette Gilliam. She died on Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Longview. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lone Star and was a secretary for A&E machine Shop for 20 years. Sue is survived by her husband, Earl C. Alexander of Lone Star; daughters and son-in-law, Angie Allison and Richard Gunn of Lone Star, Jana Haynes of Lone Star; grandchildren, Jason Haynes of Longview, Amber Allison Blear and husband Jason of Longview, Jamee Haynes of Longview; great-grandchildren, Dawson Blear of Longview, Allison Sue Blear of Longview; brothers, George E. Gilliam of Rocky Branch, Thomas R. Freeman of Daingerfield; special friend, Betty Haynes of Lone Star; special “Thank You” to our Mom’s caregivers, Nichole Medina, Beth Stanley and Tammy McPherson.
