Filing continues through Friday

There are only a few days left to sign up for seats on local school boards and city council. Filing ends March 1.
In the city of Avinger, the council terms of Harold Tress, Jane Yarborough, and Earmon “Peter” Montgomery are up.
Terms up in the city of Daingerfield are those of council members Martha Campbell, Laura Mabey, Mike Carter, and Bob Thorne. All incumbents have signed up to run for another term.
Tina Immel and Jimmy Samples have terms on the Hughes Springs City Council that expire. Mayor Reba Simpson’s term also expires. Mrs. Simpson has signed up to run for mayor, and James Samples and Jeremy Ale-Ebrahim have signed up for seats on the city council.
In Lone Star, council members up for re-election are Jerry Chism and Randy Hodges. Mayor Nick Nichols’ term is also up. Mr. Hodges and Mona Brown have signed up to run for council positions. Dianna M. Thomas and Karl Stoermer have signed up to run for mayor.
The terms of several school board members also expire in May.
At Avinger Independent School District Pam Downs, Doug Jacobs, Colleen Nix, and Lane Young have terms that expire.
For Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD, the terms of Miguel Larsen, Marie Skipper, and Mike Alcorn will expire. Mrs. Skipper and Mr. Alcorn have signed up to run for another term on the school board.
John Willis and Van Hall have terms that expire at Hughes Springs ISD. Both incumbents have signed up to run for another term.
If you would like to file for one of the positions, you may pick up an application at the city hall in your city. If you want to apply for a position on the school board, contact your school’s administration office.
Election Day is May 14.
