Avinger City Council approved changing policy on delinquent water bills. The decision was made at the council’s Feb. 25 meeting.
“We are having problems with delinquent water bills,” Mayor Marvin Parvino said.
Starting April 1, the water customers will have until the 25th of the month to pay their water bill. If the water bill is not paid by this date, the water will be cut off. A reconnect fee and deposit will be charged to have the water turned back on.
If a water customer is behind in paying their bill, they will have until May 1 to get the bill current. After this date, the water department will start turning off water, just as the gas or electric companies will do when their bills are not paid on time.
“Any deviation of this policy will have to be approved by the city council during a regular scheduled meeting,” Mayor Parvino said. “Council meetings are held on the last Monday of each month. In order to get on the agenda to discuss problems with the water bills, you will have to contact the city secretary at least one week before the regularly scheduled meeting.”
