Lady Mustangs win the bronze division

The Hughes Springs’ softball team went 5-1 Feb. 22 and 23, winning the bronze division in the Longview Two Step Tournament.
On Friday the Lady Mustangs went 2-1, defeating McLeod 15-11 and Grand Saline 5-0, losing only to New Diana 5-4. On Saturday they went 3-0 defeating Bloomburg 19-0, Arp 14-4, and Maud 14-6.
Kaitlyn Morris threw 21 innings, giving up 16 hits, 3 earned runs, and striking out 19.
Leading hitters for the Lady Mustangs were Halie Pippin, who went 11 for 19, hitting .579 on the weekend with 7 runs scored, 12 RBI’s, and two stolen bases and Ashlin Roach, who went 11 for 20, hitting .550 for the tournament with 9 runs scored, 11 RBI’s, four doubles, three triples and stealing two bases.
Siera Baird and Becca Crossland both hit .500 on the weekend. Crossland was eight for 16 with two triples and 2 home runs, 9 RBI’s and three stolen bases. Baird was nine for 18 with two doubles, 11 RBI’s and three stolen bases.

Lady Mustangs outscored its opponents 71-25 that weekend.
