Avinger One Act Play advances to Area competition this month

Avinger One Act Play has performed at Zone and District winning honors and is set to perform at Area competition this month.
Avinger One-Act Play performed “The Happy Scarecrow” by I.E. Clark Publications, Woodstock III as its one act play. The plot of “The Happy Scarecrow” is a meany of a witch dares a frilly little fairy to prove there’s such a thing as happiness. So the fairy brings a scarecrow to life and promises to make him a real man if he can find happiness. It’s a strange search, sometimes comical, sometimes sad—and the scarecrow meets a variety of characters, each providing an insight into human relations. The Scarecrow’s search evokes a little smile, a little fright, and perhaps a little tear.
The cast includes Audrey Byerly as a fairy; Rebecca Samples as a witch; Paige Hitt as the scarecrow; Nickie Browning as a princess; Lexi Taylor as a jester; and Kiana Patton as the Little Girl and the Skunk. Other included Aleshia Fort as alternate; Stephanie Garner as alternate; Brittany Escalanteas alternate; Billy Cody as Old Man; Jeremiaha Clark as a man in audience; Trey Slaton as king; James Adams as Scarehuman; Brittanie Vance as stage director; Michelle Bolden with lights and crew; Antonio Neal with lights; Lucas Santillano with sound; and Todd Samples with crew.
Zone competition was held March 19 at Paris Junior College. Paige Hitt won best actress. James Adams and Audrey Byerly won All Star Cast honors. Billy Cody, Lexi Taylor, and Rebecca Samples captured honorable mention All Star Cast. Brittanie Vance received best of crew honors.
District competition was held March 27, also at Paris Junior College where the play advanced to Area competition to be held at Grayson County College in Dennison. In District, Audrey Byerly and Paige Hitt won All Star Cast; and Rebecca Samples won honorable mention All Star Cast. The director of the one-act play is Connie Byerly.
