Gathering the news

By Marlene Bohr
Easter Sunday had an amazing number of trees down, other storm damage, and our animal shelter in Daingerfield took a good hit.  As the week wore on, I heard more and more reports of trees down, massive ones, and several at one or two places.  Some trees fell on houses or nearly into houses.
I knew the storm wasn’t a nice one as I was getting ready for church on Sunday. Electricity flickered and came back on, thankfully.
As Sunday afternoon wore on, I was online and read there was damage to the animal shelter; therefore, a trip was made over to Daingerfield to see what happened and take pictures and report the news.
As late as Wednesday I was taking pictures of trees that were down, many in Daingerfield. As Thursday afternoon wore on, a visitor to the office informed me that there were more trees down in her neighborhood and I suggested she call me the next time this happens. Days later sometimes doesn’t help as people tend to clean up storm damage fairly fast.
I can’t be everywhere at once, and I’m sure you’ve heard that phrase from many, many people. I am enlisting the aid of the readers to help me report the news. If I don’t know it, I can’t do anything about it.
If we have a storm during the week and you see damage that was done, call me the next day and let me know. If you have my cell phone number and it is after work hours, call me. If a storm happens on a weekend, call the office Monday morning.
I was ever so grateful to a Hughes Springs lady who snapped a picture of the grocery store fire in Hughes Springs several weeks ago and emailed me the picture.  Her help was so much appreciated.  It was during the work day, but I may not have been able to get down there that quickly to take as good a picture as she did.
If you can email me a picture, please do so.  Send it to mbohr@steelcountrybee.com. This is your hometown newspaper and you are often on the scene of breaking news. Please call or email us to report things you see and what is going on. Some things we can do nothing about. In bad weather events, we can’t be all over the four cities we cover; it’s just not possible.
Any help is much appreciated!
