Services for Billie Dove Hughes, 84, of Lone Star, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, at Lone Star Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Monds officiating.  Interment will follow at Daingerfield Cemetery, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.  There will be a time of visitation from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hughes was born May 1, 1929, in Mena, Ark. and died May 16, in a Pittsburg hospital.  Mrs. Hughes taught school in Hughes Springs and Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District and retired from teaching in 1995, after 26 years. She loved and wrote both music and poetry and also loved to sing. She directed the youth choir for two years and taught Sunday school at Lone Star Baptist church where she was a member since 1957. Mrs. Hughes also volunteered with Hospice and with the Lone Star Education Center, and read to children at the Library. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Troy Marie Tyler Hughes; her husband, Harold L. Hughes; and a son John Wesley Hughes.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart Tyler Hughes, of Lone Star, John Mason Hughes and his wife, Cindy, of Austin, and David Harold Hughes and his wife, Jeannie, of Carson, California; four grandchildren, Laurel, Heather, Holly, and John Mason Hughes; one brother, Colonel William Tyler and his wife, Ann of Hammond La.; a sister, Virginia Tyler Johnson and her husband, Eddie, of Mechanicsburg, Pa; and five nephews, Steve, Chris, Scott and Jeff Johnson and Rick Tyler.
