Marlene Bohr, a 15-year reporter for the Steel Country Bee, received a recent promotion as news editor for the community newspaper serving Daingerfield, Hughes Springs, Lone Star and Avinger, according to Group Manager of Northeast Texas Publishing Company, Austin Lewter.
"Marlene has endless energy and truly cares about the people in each community. She is an avid supporter of the schools and cities she covers and shows it week after week," said Publisher Debbie Knox. "Marlene has complete loyalty to the Steel Country Bee, and she is totally devoted to her job."
She has been an active member of the Hughes Springs Lions Club since 1999, having been given the position of program chairman. Speakers who come to the club are done so with an invite from Marlene, and the club hosts nearly 45 speakers per year. The Lions Club recognized her for her work with a Crystal Globe presentation at the yearly Chamber of Commerce banquet in 2004 and also in 2012.  Ms. Bohr lives in Hughes Springs and attends the Hughes Springs Church of Christ.
"Most community newspapers are thriving, and Marlene is a great example of the reason why some newspapers do better than others," said Mrs. Knox.
