Watch out for the kids
Attention all drivers: The little kids will be back in school next Monday and we all need to be on high alert. It has been nice for the past few months not worrying about school zone speed limits, but that is soon to change.
Also, please consider this your friendly reminder: We are not to use our cell phones while driving in school zones, unless it is an extreme emergency and be prepared to prove it. That will be hard if you are chatting on the phone while driving and all at once you enter the school zone still talking. I am sure there will be friendly police handy to explain the error of your ways.
This will be the third full school year that cell phone talking or texting in a school zone is illegal. Be careful.
This is the time to watch for students walking to school and crossing streets. Remember when school starts, children will be out and about and some may forget to look both ways before crossing that street no matter how many times they have been instructed. It’s up to us as adults to help watch out for them.
Don’t forget the school buses. How could anyone as they are big enough. Pay attention to their lights and if they are red, stop. You may find yourself passing go and going directly to jail if you pass a school bus while it is stopped loading children or unloading children. That is really frowned on.
And back to the cell phones. It probably would be a good idea just not to talk on the cell phones at all while we are driving and certainly don’t text while driving. This new technology is all well and good, but it seems like more and more we are bombarded with it. Some of it is good, but some of it can get us in trouble if we aren’t careful how and when we take advantage of it.
Back to school announces that summer is over. The fun can continue if we are careful and be mindful of others, especially those little ones going to and from school.
