Saying goodbye to Tebow

Well, it looks like this may be the end of the line for Tim Tebow’s NFL career. When I heard the news that he had been cut from the Patriot’s roster last week, I suddenly felt the desire to take a knee in his honor  - or memory as it may very well end up being.
Unlike most NFL players who fall from grace, I actually feel bad for Tebow. He seems like a genuinly good guy and he isn’t a bad quarterback - there are certainly worse out there.
I was among those rooting for the guy after his Cinderella season back in 2011. It annoyed me to see people mocking a guy because of his religous beliefs. I mean, we live in a time when Michael Vick was able to find a place to play after going to prison for torturing puppies. Yet, people felt the need to make fun of Tebow for being openly Christian? It just seems like there is something fundamentally wrong with that.
I can’t help but wonder how things would be diffferent for Tebow if he had been traded to a team down in the Bible Belt instead of getting shipped off to New England.
