The budget was adopted and water rates will remain the same, according to action taken by the board of directors at the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District Aug. 26 meeting. The adopted budget is $6.85 million compared to $6.83 million last year. The water rate for member cities is $1.48 per 1,000 gallons and $2.30 per 1,000 gallons for non-member cities.
General Manager Walt Sears said the drought is affecting water consumption.
“Due to the drought, the consumption of water is slightly higher than predicted,” Mr. Sears said. “The water consumed in July 2013 is the largest for the year. It is eighth on the list of the most water produced in the month. We call it our top production months for the year; this was the largest production for the year and it is eighth on the all-time list. Production in July 2013 was about 98 million gallons. The average month production would be 80 million gallons.”
Mr. Sears discussed the problems with Giant Salvinia.
