Amanda Bailey never dreamed the boy she grew up with and later married would ever harm her; but he did.
“I’ve known him since I was 13,” Ms. Bailey said. “We were friends first and then were married in 2006,” Ms. Bailey said.  “We had two children, a girl and a boy. He went to the penitentiary in 2005 and when he got out, we were married in November of 2006. In October of 2008 I filed for divorce.”
Not dreaming her husband would be capable of domestic violence, she soon learned he was.
“On Oct. 19, 2008, he had someone knock on the door, and when I asked who it was, no one said anything,” Ms. Bailey said. “I looked out of the window and a man out there had a ski mask on. I told him I was calling the police and told my husband there was someone out there. My husband went out to open the door and he knew who it was. The man came in the house and told us to get on the ground. My little girl was screaming and I shut and locked the door, but he kicked her door in. He ordered us again to get on the ground and grabbed my little girl by the throat. This time he let her daddy go into the living room to get some money, supposedly.
“Somehow I was off the ground and I had my hand between her throat and the knife and I got him away so she could get away. I fought him and got the knife. I yelled at him to leave us alone, and go and he ran off. My husband got the knife and said he was going to get the guy. He came back down the hall and said he couldn’t catch him but he just walked out the door and the man was walking down the street.”
Ms. Bailey was very suspicious of her husband after this visitor.
