Honoring our flag

Dear Editor:
Recently I was placing a U.S. Flag and a Texas Flag at our shopping center in Lone Star. As I was raising the flag, making sure it was not tangled, I looked down on Main Street and in the middle of the turn lane I observed something that moved me. Standing in the middle of the street was a young man who looked to be in his late 20s saluting the flag as I raised it. I thought for a moment not knowing who he was but wondering why we all couldn’t take time out to salute our flag.
Seems that we are in such a hurry these days we never really stop and think what the flag means. To some it is more than a piece of cloth; to others it means, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. My how times change and the respect of the flag seems to disappear.
