With the upcoming election and the prospect of the approval of sales of beer and wine in the city, an eight-page Ordinance regarding the sale of beer and wine was adopted by the Daingerfield City Council at its Oct. 28 meeting. The ordinance was “pursuant to regulations in the Texas alcoholic Beverage Code establishing regulations for the purpose of the selling of beer, and wine and permits and licenses for said sale, and prohibiting areas for said sale and permitting areas for said sale, regulating  the sale, possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages near churches, day-care centers, child-care facilities, public and private schools; regulating the sale and consumption of beer and wine in residential areas; establishing permits and application fees for the processing of granting permits and licenses to applicants and/or fees to applicants for said license; regulating signs advertising the sale of beer, wine and other beverages; repealer and providing for severability clause and providing that this ordinance shall be effective upon adoption.”
The ordinance was crafted off a model used by the city of Mount Vernon, according to Mayor Lou Irvin.
After much discussion, certain language was removed from the ordinance. Removed was Section 3, Permitted uses. Removed was #2, beer and wine retail sales (drive through) and pre-packaged alcoholic beverage retail sales (drive through) are not permitted.
Most of Section 8 regarding signage was removed, except the sentence “No person may erect or maintain a billboard, electric sign or any other outdoor advertising in violation of any ordinance of the city of Daingerfield.”
The board discussed holding a called meeting to discuss the signage ordinance.
