Lone Star Mayor began life of continuous service in 1971; still serves

Lone Star Mayor Karl Stoermer spent most of his life in service of his country and continues with service to this day.
Mayor Stoermer spent over 20 years in all facets of Air Force information technology. He began his career with a reserve commission in the United States Air Force as a second lieutenant upon graduation from Texas A&M University-College Station. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering in 1971 and a master’s degree in systems management from the University of Southern California in 1979.
He was a computer and communications officer in the Air Force from June of 1971 to Jan. 31, 1993, when he retired from active duty. He retired in the grade of lieutenant colonel.
Mayor Stoermer’s military career led him throughout the United States and abroad. His positions in the military included manager, program manager, planner/budgeter, system architect, computer analyst/programmer, computer operations and instructor positions.
From June of 1971 to August of 1973 he was a computer programmer/analysis at the Headquarters, Military Airlift Command, at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. While there he designed and developed a database and programs to assist in the management of aircrews. He was promoted to first lieutenant on Dec. 15, 1972.
From September of 1973 to July of 1976 Mayor Stoermer served as an instructor at the air training command at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. He was in World Wide Military Command and Control System (WWMCCS) as a global system for connecting the United States joint command and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
