Services for John Edward 'Eddie' Smith, 85, will be held at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Harrison Funeral Chapel in Naples. Interment will be at Springhill Cemetery in Naples under the direction of Harrison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 24, 1928, and died Nov. 15. He loved to fish, hunt, road trips and spending time with his family, whom he loved very much. Eddie owned and operated Daingerfield City Cleaners for over 30 years. Upon retirement, he became the original American picker. He loved garage sales and auctions.
Pop, as he was lovingly called by his family, was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Smith and Cecil Mae Taylor; one brother, Bobby Gerald Smith; one sister, Nancy Bell Johnston; his wife Reba McCellon; one stepson and his wife, Marion and Betty McCellon.
Survivors include his first wife, Barbara Sue Spickard; one brother, Willie Giles Smith; one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Michael Vaughan; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Ginger Smith and John and Alice Smith; stepchildren, Mark and Arlena Mathis, Vicky Farnsworth, and Steve and Sandy McCellon; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
