Graveside services for Perry Neal McDonough Sr., 78, of Rome, Ga., will be held on Monday, Jan. 13, , at 2 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery with the Rev. Mac McCurry officiating. The American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard will present full military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday, Jan. 10, from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective residences.
Mr. McDonough was born Dec. 12, 1935, in Daingerfield, to Eva Mae Hutson and Perry Morris McDonough, and died Jan. 7 at a Chattanooga, Tenn. hospital.
He graduated from Daingerfield High School in 1954. At age 18 he joined the United States Air Force for two tours retiring with two honorable discharges. He also served six tours with the United States Air National Guard Reserves which he did throughout the years with Honorable Discharges and Retirement. Mr. McDonough graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor of sciences degree in electrical engineering. He had numerous careers as an Electrical Engineer throughout the United States with the last one being Stone & Webster, known in Boston, Mass., retiring with them in Tennessee.
One of his favorite hobbies was flying; he was a pilot and had several airplanes for years before he was unable to fly due to being ill. He was also a golfer, loved fishing, and for several years was a ‘HAM Operator.’ Mr. McDonough was very active in church and was a member of the Stuart Baptist Church in Chattanooga, but had been attending the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church in Rome.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne McDonough, the former Wilma Jeanne Couey; a son, Perry N. McDonough Jr., of Warner Robins, Ga.; a daughter, Tracy Johnson, Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; two step-sons, Mark A. Coffman, and his wife, Cam, of Rome, and Steve Coffman, and his wife, Martha, of Rome; several grand and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jon, Don, and David McDonough, all of Texas; special friend and step-daughter, Gina McDonald, Marietta, Ga.; a step-daughter, Sherrie Borkowski of Texas; a step-son, Donald Wallace, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, 3002 Maple Road, Rome, Ga., has charge of the funeral arrangements.
