July ushers in mild weather compared to previous years of 100-degree temperatures

July 2013 arrived in the area with less than record temperatures which was a relief from some of the past years with temperatures in the 100s and staying that way for days on end.
July 4 activities were celebrated in Avinger and Hughes Springs with food, entertainment and fireworks.
Hughes Springs Police Chief Randy Kennedy was chosen 2013 Texas DARE Officer of the Year at a Texas Dare Officer’s Association conference held in Waco. The trophy lists the award along with the writing ‘You are truly the wind beneath our wings.’
Jerry Massey resigned from the board of trustees of Northeast Texas Community College at the last board meeting in June. Jerry Webster, market president for Pilgrim Bank in Pittsburg was chosen to fill Place I on the board of trustees.
Gordon and Betty Fair celebrated their 65th anniversary on July 7 at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Daingerfield.
