Mustangs place 22 on District 9-2A All-District Team

The Hughes Springs Mustangs had a large number of their players represented as the University Interscholastic League announced the District 9-2A Division II All-District Football Team.
Twenty-two players were named to the squad from a Mustang team that went 10-2 and advanced to the Area round of the playoffs in 2013.
Mustang Chad McKinney and Offensive lineman Kyre Lewis were at the top of the list for Hughes Springs as McKinney was named the district’s Defensive Co-MVP (along with Paul Pewitt’s Isiah Porter) while Lewis was named the Offensive Lineman of the Year.
The Mustangs had three players named to the All-District Offensive First Team, including running back Michael Martinez, tight end Hunter Smith and offensive lineman Christian Smith.
Five players were named to the Defensive First Team, including Smith (as a defensive lineman). Thomas Wallace was also picked from the defensive line, Kane Sampson was picked as an outside linebacker, Justin Westmoreland was picked as an inside linebacker and Fred Hopkins, Jr. was picked as a corner.
