Keaton Key led the way with 18 points as three Daingefield players finished the game in double figures. Calvin Bryant had 11 points for the Tigers and Spencer Alexander added 10.
After a scoring drought of nearly four minutes to open the contest, a pair of baskets by Key and Alexander, along with a three pointer by Kenan Whetstone, helped the Tigers jump out to a 7-0 lead midway through the opening quarter.
L.Z. Luster added back-to-back jumpers to add to the Daingerfield lead and the Tigers held a 13-4 advantage after one quarter of action.
The Bulldogs opened the second quarter with a 10-4 run that cut the Daingerfield lead to 17-14 with 3:19 to play in the opening half.
The Tigers answered with baskets by Bryant and Key to go up 21-14, but Queen City scored six of the half’s last eight points to cut the Daingerfield lead to 23-20 at the break.
The teams continued to trade baskets in the early going of the third quarter as Daingerfield got hoops from Alexander, Bryant, Whetstone and Key. Back-to-back three pointers from Malik Higgins and Key put the Tigers up 40-29 before Key made one of three free throws on an intentional foul to give Daingerfield a 41-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Queen City got the opening basket of the fourth quarter before Higgins answered with a pair of baskets to put the Tigers up 45-31.
Then the Bulldogs made their run.
Queen City turned up the defensive pressure while attacking the basket on offense and used a 13-3 run to cut the Daingerfield lead to just four at 48-44 with 1:34 remaining.
