The Lone Star City Council called for a general election to be held on May 10 to elect three aldermen to fill the expiring terms of Earl Alexander, Martha Wexler and Jerri Chism. This action was taken at the Jan. 16 council meeting.
In other business, a request by Keith Reiter to change the city ordinance regulating animals inside the city limits to allow the restricted use/raising of chickens inside the city limits was deferred. The council requested further information from Mr. Reiter and he was agreeable to working with them on the wording of the ordinance.
“I have all my neighbor’s signatures,” Mr. Reiter said. “There are a lot of cities that allow this now. I think with the proper restriction, I do not see a problem. It can be money for the city. It can keep down the bugs. There are a lot of good things about it. There are some negative, but we can keep that down.”
Mr. Reiter said he lives on the corner of Dogwood and Timberlane.
“I have four acres,” he said. “All my neighbors are happy about it.”
Mayor Stoermer said they would have to change the city ordinance to allow him to raise chickens in the city limits.
“I don’t’ see why the change cannot be made if it is properly written,” Mr. Reiter said. “I am not going to have roosters. I want to raise hens and have eggs. I went to all the neighbors and all were favorable to this.
