Crystal Globes and finery reigned at the Hughes Springs chamber banquet

‘Putting on the Ritz’ was the theme of the 2014 Hughes Springs Chamber of Commerce banquet held for the first year at the new The Legacy an Event Center in Hughes Springs. Clothes, jewelry and Crystal Globes sparkled during the evening while Marilyn Lee provided piano music to the diners at the event.
Virginia Rainwater was chosen as the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. The mother of five sons, Mrs. Rainwater found the time to go to college, not only earning her bachelor’s degree but also her master’s degree. She taught school for 14 years at Hughes Springs Independent School District. She arrived in Hughes Springs in 1972 and the self-taught organist still plays for services at First Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. The vital member of the community has also found time to participate in the Sesame Literary Club, Red Radiance Garden Club, Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Hughes Springs Retired School Employees. Not only has she served her church as organist for so many years, she also has contributed to the church music program, Vacation Bible School, is a Sunday School teacher, with Young at Heart, the Homemaker’s Sunday School class and Women on a Mission.
