School makes room for additional students

The number of students in each grade has been raised by the Hughes Springs Independent School District board of trustees at their Jan. 13 meeting. In a review of the transfer policy, the number of students in each grade will go from 80 to 100.
Superintendent Rick Ogden said they are over 80 in some classes already.
“With raising the transfer policy number, we will be able to fill extra classrooms at the elementary school,” Mr. Ogden said.
In other business, the board approved an order authorizing the reissuance of bonds when the savings reach $285,000. The authority was given to the administration to approve this amount when the savings reach this.
Brian Grubbs from Southwest Securities gave the bond refunding presentation. He said there was a possibility of refunding or refinancing bonds from 2003 at a lower interest rate that would save the district approximately $285,000.
