Vote by mail has been made easier with new law
In the past, a Texas voter would have to submit an application in writing for each election to vote by mail to the early voting clerk. This application could not be submitted until 60 days before each election. Campaigns and candidates had, in essence, about a 45-day period to get everyone signed up.
Due to a new law that began Jan. 4, seniors and disabled voters will be able to complete a single application for all voting ballots for an entire year.
Those who request an Annual Ballot by Mail (ABBM) before Friday, Feb. 21, will automatically receive (at the appropriate time) a primary ballot, the runoff ballot (if needed) and the November general election ballot. They will also receive any special election or local ballots, if the county clerk is the early voting clerk for that election.
Note: Local elections, such as school board and city official elections, will not be covered by the ABBM rule. However, those same individuals can apply to vote by mail for those elections, too.
