Local woman watches grandson skating in Olympics

Members of local families are sitting on the edge of their seats waiting as a family member is competing in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Jonathan Garcia, 27, of Salt Lake City, Utah, is the grandson of Sally Welch of Hughes Springs and the nephew of Toni and Randy Black of Hughes Springs. Garcia’s mother, Marianne Welch, is a native of Hughes Springs. Garcia is a skater on the U.S. Olympic long track team.
“I am so excited about Jonathan at the Olympics,” Sally Welch said.  “I never did dream of that happening, even though he worked hard to do it. He has been in Salt Lake City for four years. They have a training facility there.”
