Water district helps member cities with fee payments

Assisting member cities was one topic on the agenda of the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District as the board approved a report listing amounts paid to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality on behalf of the member cities. The report was presented by General Manager Walt Sears.
“Each one of the seven member cities had their TCEQ fee paid by the district,” Mr. Sears said. “The total amount that the district paid for the member cities was $15,845.50.
“We do that because the fees from the state have increased and the district has paid them so the cities would not have to pay them.  This is a fee assessed against the city, but by having membership in the district, the district pays the fees. TCEQ accesses a consolidated fee that covers things like TCEQ’s oversight of the cities’ distribution system. TCEQ routinely will conduct an investigation and do other things that involve the cities’ systems.”
