Memorial services for John Stanley Shepperd, 70, of Pryor, Okla., will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 23 at the Gladewater Former Students Association Building, at 2509 Hendricks in Gladewater. Mr. Shepperd was born in Gladewater on Sept. 17, 1943, and died Feb. 28 in Tulsa, Okla.
Mr. Shepperd graduated from Gladewater High School in 1962. He served as president of his senior class and was a member of the Gladewater High School Choir, basketball team and football team. He earned an associate’s degree from Kilgore Junior College several years later. Many years later, he attended Floyd Junior College in Rome, Ga., to acquire computer skills needed in his profession. He enjoyed helping fellow employees master these same skills.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and in his words, ‘making sawdust and boards.’ He loved nature and enjoyed watching and feeding squirrels and birds. Above all, he was devoted to his family.
Mr. Shepperd was employed by Austin Building Company in power plant construction and in later years by the Nestle Ralston Purina Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Foy and Mary Olivia Shepperd; his brother, Henry M. Shepperd; and daughter-in-law, Trina Shepperd.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Carol Shepperd; sons, John Henry Shepperd and Jacob Lewis Shepperd; and grandchildren, Miriam Faith Shepperd, John Keith Shepperd and Noah Anthony Shepperd; sister, Rebecca Farner of Bedford; brother, Lewis Shepperd of Gilmer, sister, Jane Shepperd Parton and husband, Edward Parton of Gladewater; sister, Mary Ford and husband, Donnie Ford of Bedford; sister-in-law, Pat Beard Shepperd of Longview; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
The family invites former classmates, friends and acquaintances to celebrate a remembrance of his life on March 23.
