Lady Tigers Finish Softball Season

 

 

The Daingerfield Lady Tiger softball team finished the season Friday afternoon with a 5-4 win over the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas. Lexi Porter led the way for the Lady Tiger offense with two hits, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Lone senior Delaney Smith chipped in with a game-tying 2-run single on Senior Night and Meme Black added a run scoring single of her own. Camryn Byrd picked up her 10th win of the season, striking out eight and walking none in the complete-game effort. Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Porter got the Lady Tigers on the board and cut the Lady Brahma lead in half. After leading off the game with an infield single, Porter stole second base and came around to score on a throwing error. Pewitt scored single runs in the second and third innings to take a 4-1 lead, but the Lady Tigers answered in the bottom of the third. Asha Buford and Porter started the inning with  back-to-back singles. The Lady Brahmas retired the next two batters, but Black and Smith followed with back-to-back two-out singles to tie the game at 4-4. Byrd singled to put the goahead run on base with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Black then reached on an error and Baylee Welch walked to load the bases with two outs. Jordan Freeman followed with a pop-up to third base that was not fielded, allowing Byrd to cross the plate and give the Lady Tigers a 5-4 lead. Pewitt got the tying run to second base in the top of the 6th inning, but a strikeout by Byrd and a line drive to Porter in centerfield left the runner stranded. The Lady Tigers did not allow another baserunner, as they shut down the Lady Brahmas in order in the top of the seventh to secure their 10th win of the season. Ashlyn Fomby, Freeman, Buford, and Byrd each added singles for Daingerfield. With the win, the Lady Tigers finish the season with a (10-16, 3-9) record.
