Golf tournament benefits Sheltered Agency for Families in East Texas

On April 11, Cox Logistics, of Lone Star, hosted the SAFE-T Charity Golf  Tournament in memory of Karen Cox Smith. A victim of domestic violence, Mrs. Smith lost her life in January 2013. Several family members, including her 16- year-old son, were on hand for the event.
 
Jason Cox, Karen’s cousin, said, “Losing Karen was a tragedy,” Jason Cox, Mrs. Smith’s cousin, said. “We wanted to do something to promote awareness of domestic violence as well as to honor the memory of someone whom we all love and miss.”
 
The Two Man Scramble was held at the Daingerfield Country Club. Twenty-two teams registered with the event generating $4,000 donated to SAFE-T. First place went to the team of Ted Peterson and Dustin Homer. Second place went to the team of Jason Cox and Keith Strickland. Third place went to the team of Clay Lester and Tommy Fleming. Prizes were awarded for longest drive (Mike Harte), closest to the pin (Clay Lester) and longest putt (Tommy Fleming).
