Jefferson’s community theatre will hold tryouts for the upcoming musical, “Cheaper By The Dozen” beginning this month.

The Opera House Theatre Players will produce the musical on July 3-4-5 at the Transportation/Tourist building in downtown Jefferson. Rehearsal will begin in June and will also be held at the same location.

Needed for the musical-comedy that was first a book and a film are 12 children in age ranges from 7-8 to 20 years and adults or those who can play adults as the parents, friends and others who make up a cast of 17 persons. Being able to sing is a plus for the show which will also feature limited choreography for certain musical numbers.

The play is set in the early 1920s when Edwardian- era parents began to raise their children and comically recreates the ups and downs of a family that large who is headed by the father, a ram-rod straight disciplinarian obsessed with “everything working like clockwork.”

When it doesn’t very often, he is becomes very put out but is kind and loving anyway. The music reflects the lives of the family as they work through the “problems”.

Auditions times and location have been re-scheduled as follows: Friday, May 9 at 6 p.m. Living Room Theatre, 112 Vale St, Jefferson, Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, May 17 18, 24, and 25 at 2 p.m.
