Pets are blessings from God

It is definitely one of the saddest things in life to lose a pet you have given a home and in reality, they have really ‘made’ your home a real home. We are quite embarrassed to shed a tear in public for them, and try to buck up and save most of our tears for when we are at home out of sight of others. Most of the time it is just too hard for a pet owner to talk about the loss of a pet while it is still very fresh, and we need time to grieve.
Thank God there are other pet lovers in our lives that just have to squeeze our hand to let us know they understand the impact of how devastating the loss of pet is on our life.
One of the saddest things I have ever heard, and I have heard it many times from someone who has just lost a pet, isthey will never get another. They hurt so much they just will not put themselves in line for experiencing that hurt again.
My first instinct is to say ‘you mean you can’t love another one?’ It is rough to lose a pet, just a real bummer. To put the toys away and empty the water bowl and food dish. Ouch! I’ve done it more than once, wailing the entire time. But never love another one? That isn’t going to happen with me.
One of my ways of dealing with the pain of losing one of those precious dogs I’ve owned is to thank God for letting me have them in my life for as many years as I have been able to have them. Each one of the dogs I’ve had in my life have been different and each one was special in their own particular way. I’ve had anything from a little 12-pound miniature terrier to a St. Bernard.
It is so amazing how each can express their love for us. They have such unconditional love, it is such a wonder. Most of them honestly think their owner hung the moon.
The time between my last two dogs was really awful. Let me pause here to say that running right out to get another one reduced the pain, or replaced the one I lost; it didn’t. But there is always another homeless dog that needs a special person they can look up to and share a home with. Our society is such that thousands upon thousands are killed daily in this country, whether they are accidental or put to sleep just because no one wants them.
