Walker Michael Rex Walker’s funeral was held on May 10, at 10 a.m. under the direction of Nail Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield. Pallbearers were Michael Hayes, Brandon Neuville, Bobby Neuville, James (Boo) Whelchel, Freddie Leo McNeil and Ira Tossey. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery in Pittsburg. Bro. John Raney and Bro. Bill Baxter officiated. Michael Rex Walker was born Oct. 23, 1943, in Daingerfield to Sterritt (S.G.) Walker and Ada (Goss) Walker. Michael Rex Walker died May 8, at the Shreveport V.A. Hospital in Shreveport, La. He was 70 years old. The last 12 years of his life he spent married to his childhood friend and wife, Betty Jean Walker. They did some traveling. He was a disabled veteran (service-connected) throughout their marriage. His health began to affect in October 2011. He had a stroke in November 2012. Betty Jean took care of him at home as well as holding down her job at Titus County Courthouse where she’s been employed for 19 years. On March 19, 2014, Michael Rex had to go to the hospital. During March 2014 he was retaining a lot of fluid, had surgery in Tyler, and was discharged to Greenhill Villas Nursing Facility. His health declined rapidly and he succumbed to death on May 8. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edd Walker. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Walker, and children: Rene Walker, Michael Rex Walker, Jr. Shelly Walker, Taisha Walker (Wright), Rex Walker, and Justin Walker-LeVan. Also, step-daughters: Melba Dawnette Alexander, Donna Darlene Elmore, Katherine Mar McNeil, and Karmin Renea McNeil; and three brothers; Robert Walker, Richard Walker, and Bill Walker. Michael Rex was loved and will surely be missed.
