The Hughes Springs City Council approved an annexation petition at a special called meeting May 27 at the city council chambers. A petition had been received from Terri McMillon to annex 4.20 acres of property into the city. “We received the petition on May 16; however, there was not time enough to act on it at the May 20 meeting; therefore, we called a special session,” City Secretary George Fite said.

Mr. Fite said he did not know the plans for the land. “We have talked to no representative, only real estate individuals inquiring about services and ordinances( drilling and mining, building codes and permits, etc.),” he said. “We have only had discussions about commercial property development with no names mentioned or referenced.

“We have this all the time with prospective businesses collecting information and have no names to associate with this at this time either. I have heard rumors and have heard all manner of things, even a housing project, but have no name to associate with or even the guarantee that something will occur.”
