Unsafe seat demolition

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) employees oversee the demolition of about 70- plus old and outdated child safety car seats. The car seats were collected during regular safety car seat checks during the past year. When outdated and possibly unsafe seats are found, the parent or guardian is given a new car seat and taught how to properly install and use the car seats. Car seat checks this year are scheduled for Linden in July and Daingerfield in October. Appointments can also be made by calling TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist Irene Webster in Atlanta at 903-799-1221. Anyone wanting to report a child riding unsecured in a vehicle can call the “Please Be Seated” hotline at 903-799-1400 and leave a message with allpertinent information, including the license plate number, or they can e-mail it to Irene.Webster@txdot.gov or can text it to 512-658-2467.
