Billy Tarver, 61, of Naples, was arrested and placed in the Morris County Jail on June 21, after being arrested on multiple charges, according to Daingerfield Police Chief Tracey Climer. “Daingerfield Police Officer Bret Gutierrez was heading west on Webb Street when he noticed a vehicle turn off Broadnax Boulevard on E. Webb Street heading towards him,” Chief Climer said. “Officer Gutierrez noticed the vehicle swerving from left to right and driving with its high beams on; therefore, he turned around to follow it. The vehicle continued traveling east on Webb Street and then onto E. Jefferson Street at a very high rate of speed for a residential neighborhood. Officer Gutierrez followed the car as it continued east from Jefferson onto State Street.

“Officer Gutierrez turned on the overhead lights to initiate a traffic stop. The driver fled and finally stopped only to place the vehicle in reverse and start backing up. The driver continued backing and then hit the patrol car. When the driver then opened his door, Officer Gutierrez made his way to the driver and advised him he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back.
