Alfred L. Hudgins, 92, of Longview, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on, Thursday, July 17, in Longview.
Mr. Hudgins was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Nacogdoches County to Walter O. Hudgins and Allie Anderson Hudgins. He spent most of his adult life in the Lone Star area, retiring from Lone Star Steel after 30 years as a plant millwright. He was an avid fisherman and lived with his family on the Lone Star Lake for 55 years. Al proudly served in the United States Army coming ashore on Normandy and helping with the liberation of France. He remained a loyal patriot and will receive a military honors graveside service. Al was of the Baptist faith and was often found with his Bible in hand.
Al was devoted to his wife, Evelyn during 71 years of marriage and a devoted father whose love for family was always known and felt by each one. Al touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humour even when ill.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Pondant and husband, Dom of Marshall and sons; Carl Hudgins and wife, Carol of Grandbury , Stephen R. Hudgins and wife, Connie of San Antonio and John D. Hudgins and wife, Janelle of Longview.
He was a loved Papa and Papa Farmer to 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great Grandchildren.
From a family of 16, he is survived by two brothers and four sisters.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn Elizabeth Hudgins, granddaughter, Angela Pondant, two brothers and eight sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 21, at Garrison Funeral Home in Garrison. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, at Cold Springs Baptist Church in Garrison with Bro. Bill Jones officiating. A military honors graveside service will follow at Cold Springs Cemetery in Garrison under the direction of VFW Post 8904.
