Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District Superintendent Sandra Quarles reported on the construction under a $5.4 million bond for the district as it nears completion. The construction is covered under a $5.4 million bond, a Qualified School Construction Bond that voters approved at the polls.
“It is nearly completed,” Mrs. Quarles said.
“We are working on the screens in front of the air conditioners. The framework is up. Hopefully they will be installed before school starts. That was what caused the flooding the other day. The flooding was caused from where they were putting the framework. They had to put up temporary flashing and they thought what they had done would take care of it. Architect Ted Estep said the Transit Insurance would pay for the damages.
“The concrete walk behind the junior high will be put back in before school starts. We will have all the money spent from the bond by Aug. 15, which is the deadline.
“We are working on the floor at West Elementaryand are running into asbestos. They assure us they will get everything done before school starts Aug. 25.”
In her report, Mrs. Quarles advised of resignations and new employees. Resigning were Vanessa Murphy, South Elementary teacher; Angela Brooks, a junior high teacher; and Archie Thompson, a junior high science teacher/ coach. New employees include Adam Linwood, junior high school physical education teacher/coach; Sarah Ford, South Elementary teacher; Shasta Terrell, South Elementary special education teacher/coach; Donna Lack, high school English teacher; Allison Bockmon Duke, ARD facilitator; and Michael Rutherford, South Elementary teacher. Maintenance and transportation director James Long presented his monthly report. “We are still working on the press box,” Mr. Long said. “The 2010 banner has been hung. The flooring on the gym floors that get refinished every year is being completed. We are working on the high school parking lot. I called and Bailey’s said they cannot get yellow marking paint. If all else fails,we will have to go to Sherwin Williams as I know they have it.
