Jenkins Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by Daingerfield Volunteer Fire Department, put out an 18-wheeler fire at Blackwell Trucking at 125 County Road 2202 south of Daingerfield. The fire occurred on July 31.
“We had a customer come in to buy a trailer and he had just parked his truck and came inside the office,” Jerry Blackwell said. “He was Matt Roorda from Montezuma, Iowa. “The truck began Truck catches fire after driver parks and goes in trucking company office smoking under the hood, and one of the guys ran in and told us. I ran out with a fire extinguisher and when flames started coming up, we called the fire department.
” Mr. Blackwell said he thought it was an electrical fire and estimated the value of the truck at approximately $70,000.
The fire department did a good job to keep the gas tanks from blowing up,” Mr. Blackwell said. “If the fuel tanks would have blown up, the fire would have traveled 500 feet.” No one was injured in the fire.
