Opal Wynell (Nellie) Rhyne Sharber
Sharber
Opal Wynell (Nellie) Rhyne Sharber was born Jan. 14, 1928, to Herman Henry and Ethel Foster Rhyne in Cass County. Nell went to her heavenly home at the age of 86 on Aug. 14, after a lengthy illness in Longview. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at the Reeder Davis Funeral Chapel in Hughes Springs. Interment will follow at Pruitt’s Lake Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home. There will be a time of visitation from 6 until 8 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Over the course of her lifetime, she lived in the Pruitt’s Lake Community where she shared her creativity as a homemaker with others by cooking, sewing, gardening, canning, quilting, and making numerous crocheted items for individuals across the east Texas area. She loved her family, and in later years, became involved with genealogy by researching the Rhyne family history back to its roots in Germany. She was a member of the Pruitt’s Lake Missionary Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by grandparents, Fannie and Joseph Foster, parents, Herman and Ethel Rhyne, her brother, Elmer Lawrence (Boots) Rhyne, a son, Homer Lawrence Kenney, his father, Elmer Lawrence Kenney, and her husband, Earl Sharber.
She is survived by her daughter, Neda Chearl and her husband, Steve Dickerson of Jefferson; a step-daughter, Glenda Jean Russell of Hughes Springs; seven grandchildren, Kera, Kelly, Reps, Kaitlin, Kristina, Leslie, Milo and numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Doris Rowe and husband, William, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Hospital of Marshall, Select Specialty Hospital, Longview, Highland Pines Nursing and Rehab of Longview, and Hospice of East Texas, Tyler for their wonderful care of ‘Mamaw’ over the past several months. Each treated her as their own family member.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in her memory to Highland Pines Nursing and Rehab, Longview; Pruitt’s Lake Missionary Baptist Church, Avinger; Immanuel Baptist Church, Marshall; or Hospice of East Texas, Tyler.
