Laura Richardson of Hughes Springs wasn’t expecting to be published, but she received some exciting news recently.
A quarterly nationally distributed publication, GreenPrints Weeder’s Digest, published an article she submitted to the garden magazine in Fairview, N.C. in its Autumn edition.
Richardson hand-wrote her article and mailed it in, to later receive a handwritten note from the editor of The Weeder’s Digest, Pat Stone, along with a $25 check for what he called a “charming” story.
“I hand wrote the article.” Richardson said. “My daughter thought it was hysterical and that no one would read it. I have been reading this publication for years. One day my granddaughter and I were out in the yard and she was naming flowers and when she got to this certain flower she said ‘moanin glories’. I thought to myself …. I have got to write about this and send it in. I still laugh when I think about what happened.”
