The face of Veterans Day
Wars have come and gone over the course of time, and people who fought in them, sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
Veterans Day should be everyday. Not just one day of the year, but in our minds we should keep the spirit of Veteran's Day alive all throughout the year.
I had the pleasure of speaking with two men last week who are Veterans. They brought their strength and courage to the table as young men eager to serve their country. Today they serve as a reminder of the sacrifices that were made to protect our great nation. Those two men, grace the front page of our newspaper this week; Mr. Bankard and Mr. Smith.
Mr. Smith gently reminded me of what a Veteran truly is. Their heroism cannot go unnoticed, because at any time like many men before and after them, there was a chance that they would not return home.
A Veteran is one who truly embraces the spirit of our nation, one who with strength and determination insured our freedom and our way of life.
Mr. Lyman and his wife, Bobbi, told me about the horrors that Mr. Bankard's brother faced when he went into the army shortly after Mr. Bankard was discharged. Fighting frostbite, no running water or no drinking water; it was no easy task.
As November has come to its beginning, people tend to share what they are thankful for, and I am thankful for these two men who had a part in preserving not only my freedom, but yours.
I am thankful for the brave men and women who are currently in service, because the fight for freedom is ongoing. I think we will always fight for it. Our great United States are great because of our Veterans and our current brave men and women in service. So for them I am also grateful.
I ask all of our readers to make not only November or Veterans Day a time of remembrance, but everyday. When you meet a Veteran or a serviceman, let them know how thankful you are for them, for without them, the Unites States we know, could very well be a different one. And the freedoms we currently possess could be the chains of not so free nation.
Join us this month, as we feature a Veteran each week of November. And remember, a free nation comes with a price, and these men and women have and continue to pay that price.
