The Hughes Springs Mustangs hit the road with thoughts of clinching the district championship with a win.  Those thoughts were quickly made reality, with The Mustangs striking quick and rapidly, finishing off the Dekalb Bears to a 48-7 final.  The Bears won the toss, and deferred until the second half, so Hughes Springs received the kick off, only too muff the kick off and give the Bears the ball in Mustang territory.  But the once porous defense has now, for three weeks in a row played lights out, limiting the Bears on the night to 115 total yards on the night.

Facing a test right off the bat, the defense led by Colton Crawley, Isidro Rodriguez and Austin Watkins, forced the Bears to give the ball back .  That was the theme all night as the defense was able to penetrate Dekalb's line and disrupt the Bears running game.  Most of the Bears yardage was gained late in the game with most of the first string sitting, allowing the reserves to get some much needed reps.

Fred Hopkins again was the spark plug for the Mustang offense, starting off the scoring with a sweep to the left that covered 49 yards to pay dirt.  Malik Chism was good from three yards out for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 quickly in the first quarter.

Getting the ball back to the offense Gabe DuBose this time scored from five yards out, this time Hopkins getting the two points for a 16-0 lead.

At the end of the first period DuBose again was at it, this time with an almost 60-yard scamper to put Hughes Springs in business to start the second quarter.  DuBose was able to cap the drive off with another touchdown run, putting the Mustangs up 22-0. DuBose led the 'Stangs with four touchdowns and in rushing as well, with 121 yards on just 12 carries.  Hopkins also eclipsed the century mark as well, with 108 yards on four carries.
