Kickin' it with Chuck Norris
By Angela Guillory
It was an exciting night for Linden-Kildare students in the KickStart Kids Program as each student personally met and had their photo taken with program founder Chuck Norris.
Chuck and Gena Norris, founders of the KickStart Kids Program, were in attendance Nov. 20 as more than 100 students received their belts at the Linden-Kildare Consolidated Independent School District winter belt ceremony held in the high school gym.
Norris and his wife Gena meet with county, city and school officials from Linden, Atlanta, Queen City, Hughes Springs and Bloomburg prior to the event. Chuck and Gena visited with each group as they were introduced and posed for pictures.
Also in attendance were Pat Kaufman, executive director; John Kurek, director of operations and Joey Nelson, director of special programs.
The martial arts program was founded in 1992 in the Houston area. It is now in 51 schools in the Houston, Dallas, Galveston, Austin/Pflugerville, Navasota, Bryan/College Station, Linden-Kildare, and Alvin areas of Texas.
Norris said 8,000 students are currently enrolled in the program; more than 80,000 students have graduated from the program.
