Who have you helped today?
Over the last few days, I've learned of some really honorable things that children have done to help others. In Hughes Springs, elementary students worked math problems and raised over $2,000 to donate to St, Jude's Children's Hospital. And then one giving family decided that instead of receiving birthday presents for their son Hudson, they would raise money to also donate to St. Jude. If that isn't love for humanity folks, then I don't know what is. It's the perfect time of the year to learn about these things, especially on how to give and not expect anything back. Who have you helped today? These children, out of their hearts, did something to donate money to a hospital that cares for sick little angels from all over the country and even the world. Occasionally I will see someone on the street in Longview and I'll give them the last bit of cash I have or I have even taken them lunch. People have told me I shouldn't do it because some homeless people pose as such, but probably have more money than I do. To me it is a blessing to be able to give when I can. The idea is to give, and even if this person is better off than I am, posing in rags to make some extra cash, God knows the circumstances. And it is with your heart you give, that God sees your true intentions. For those intentions I believe we will be blessed. Who have you helped today? I was looking on Facebook the other evening, and I saw a post from a friend. He asked a few homeless people in Longview what they most desired for Christmas. They replied to him with very simple things. He made this post on Facebook to ask anyone that would like to help him get some of the items the homeless people had asked for. My heart melted to see all of those that readily offered to get something for one of these dear souls.
It is a season of love. Of fellowship. There's a lady I know in the nearby town of New Boston, who travels all over East Texas ministering the word of God and delivering coats, shoes and all sorts of items donated by caring people to those in need of them. Who have you helped today? Defrost your heart. I can only wonder what the world would be like, or even our little portion of East Texas, if everyone could be like the children who raised money, or the little boy who gave up presents for his birthday so children in a hospital can have a chance at life, or even like the lady running back and forth with clothes and shoes to help others. What a world that would be. The Bible says to not withhold anything good from to whom it is due, especially when it is in the power of your hand to do it. (Deuteronomy 15:10) And if you give, do so without the spirit of grief. Do it willingly, because only then can you be blessed.
Who have you helped today? A kind gesture, a hug, even a coffee can help brighten someone's day. But giving and the spirit of love begin with you and I. And if not you, then who? If they can, we can too.
