Utility improvements have begun in Lone Star on Byrne Street, after the city was awarded a $275,000 Texas Community Development Grant by the Texas Department of Agriculture for the water improvement project. As work begins, construction crews will replace water lines in order to prevent frequent maintenance issues and improve water pressure. Project activities will also take place from Fannin Street to Crockett Street within in the city.
The total cost of the project is $329,000. The City of Lone Star will contribute $54,000, which is funded by revenue generated from a water and sewer utility rate increase in 2013, after the city council approved ordinance 273, which increased the rates.
