Cass County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution approving Cass County’s affiliation with CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System and Wadley Regional Medical Center to design a Medicaid supplemental reimbursement affiliation program for the benefit of the local community at no additional cost to taxpayers. The agreement is effective Jan.1, 2015.
Cass County Judge Charles McMichael said he wanted it noted that he was opposed to the resolution.
Participation in the program is governed by the centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. The conditions of participation allows the county to collect, analyze, and report data to tax payers on a post-hoc basis on an annual, semi-annual or quarterly schedule to evaluate the performance of the private hospitals to determine whether their participation benefited the community.
After the court session Administrator of CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital Atlanta Thomas McKinney said “I think this is a win win for the county as well as the healthcare system.” Attorney Todd Ramberg agreed, “I am proud of the court’s decision. It is good for the community, county and good for the hospital.”
In other business, a request by the City of Linden to obtain three quarters of an acre of county property was approved. Linden Mayor Clarence Burns said this is in order to build a 100,000 gallon elevated storage tank adjacent to a ground storage tank near the Cass County Jail. Burns informed commissioners that the city acquired an easement from the previous owner in 1973 prior to the county obtaining the land in 1990 for the ground storage tank.
