Services for Mr. Hershel Walker, 85, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2015, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Winskie officiating. Mr. Walker passed away January 8, 2015, in Tyler. He was born June 19, 1929, in Titus County to Frank W. & Lennis Elsie Arthur Walker. He spent his early years in the Hughes Springs/Daingerfield area. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Hershel enjoyed attending and playing in Blue Grass Festivals with his wife, Vermelle. He liked to tinker, whittle and could fix anything. Hershel built coin op laundries all over East Texas and owned/operated Walker Electric in Grand Saline. He served on the Grand Saline City Council and was a mason. Hershel loved his dog “Missy” and his cat “Sam”. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vermelle Walker; and brother, Harold W. Walker. Survivors include his three daughters and sons-in-law, Renee Mains & Al Jacobs of Clovis, NM, Teresa O’Steen & Tom Dixon of Ft. Worth and Tammy & Chuck Boyer of Grand Saline; brother and sister-inlaw, Billy & Linda Walker of Hughes Springs; two sisters, Betty Schneider of Longview and Barnie Rowe of Hughes Springs; six grandchildren, Hershel Aaron & Diane Mains, Troy Lee Dotson, Jarrod Walker & Wendy O’Steen, Katherine Renee O’Steen, Misty & Joe Patrick and Cory & Tara Boyer; thirteen great-grandchildren, Lacee Erin Mains, Hershel Lane Mains, Layton Aaron Mains, Emma Green, Jace Dotson, Lucy Dotson, Mackinzie, Haley, Cassandra, and Allison Patrick, Bobby Grove, Nicholas Walker O’Steen and Logan Alexander O’Steen; good friend, Margaret Denton of Grand Saline; and numerous other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.
