Information line provides resources to people in need What’s the 2-1-1?

DAINGERFIELD—Who you gonna call if you need help with an electric bill or you need a food pantry or to report fraud? Call 2-1-1. There is a free service in Texas that connects people to local community resources, access to “Your Texas Benefits” such as SNAP, Medicaid and TANF, fraud reporting and the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR). The service is known as 2-1-1 Texas. Shanna Martin, Director of 2-1-1 Texas’s Northeast Region, said the system is designed around local call centers which can director people to the resources they need. “We are here to provide specific information to people,” Martin said. “We don’t provide money but we can get you in contact with the resources and people who might be able to help you.” The Northeast Region of 2-1-1 covers nine counties, among these Morris County and Cass County.
