Both Hughes Springs basketball teams are still fighting for playoff spots. That’s the good news. Bad news for the boys is that their journey to the post-season is a bit harder than the road for the girls. With the win Friday against Queen City, the Lady Mustangs have to continue to play solid ball, with Breanne Gunn leading the way post-season ball seems to be a real possibility. The boys on the other hand, their game arguable needs to rise a bit to advance. The boys were on the losing end of a battle with Queen City and stand at 2-5 in district with the season quickly slipping away. The varsity Mustang boys were hot out of the gate but were unable to sustain the gains made in the first quarter. The second and third quarters saw a 3 point lead turn into a 17 point hole going into the 4th quarter. Austin King led the way with 19 points but the deficit was too large to overcome, and ultimately the boys were on the losing end of a 67-53 score.
